Business coaching is the assisted process of designing, implementing and optimising new business structures, processes, metrics and disciplines into a business entity, or the practice of reviewing existing processes, metrics such as pricing, margins, and essential best practices such that businesses optimise their potential. Potential is often a financial measure but it may also be some other measure of success depending on the nature of the business.
Business coaching is often needed as many people start a business with a good business idea, but are not equipped to start, manage or lead a business to stated success criteria. Many good Small Medium Enterprises (SME’s) fail in the first 5 years, whilst others limp along with a seemingly good business but an objective audit and review would show that key financial and resource settings in the business are sabotaging the business long term, or creating under-achieving outcomes.
In many cases businesses lack key processes, measures, and review templates that would surface and highlight such dangers. Many business owners are too caught up in their own business at the operational coal face to be able to step back, plan, review and adopt a strategic leadership and business growth role.

In many cases we find prior business and executive coaching interventions which have led nowhere. In effect what happened was that the learning and adoption did not take place as the psychological resistance and sabotage was not dealt with. Like the old saying goes, “you can lead a horse to water but you cannot make it drink”.
